С saddened news, it has been reported about the passing of Shutaro Ida, a Japanese programmer, screenwriter, and designer. He succumbed to cancer after a long battle, as stated by the studio ArtPlay.

Shutaro Ida passed away on February 10 at the age of 52. The farewell ceremony was held privately for family members. Ida was known for his work as a programmer on several Castlevania games and as the creative director for the Bloodstained series. “Shutaro made a significant impact on the gaming industry, creating numerous works. His departure is an irreparable loss, and it’s especially painful to realize how much more he still had to offer,” expressed Koji Igarashi, co-founder of ArtPlay.

The last project Ida was involved with is the new installment of the Bloodstained series titled Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement, which is scheduled for release in 2026 and is currently in the final stages of production. Koji Igarashi has promised that The Scarlet Engagement will be completed in honor of the late colleague.

Shutaro Ida began his career in the industry in the 1990s as a programmer at Konami. His first project with the company was Sexy Parodius in 1996 for PlayStation and SEGA Saturn, while among his last works were Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain released in 2015. After leaving Konami, Ida joined Igarashi at ArtPlay to work on Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, which was funded through Kickstarter.
